Whipped Vegan Feta

Whipped Vegan Feta

If you’ve been missing the uniquely tangy flavor and creamy richness of feta cheese since going vegan, prepare to rejoice: this Vegan Whipped Feta is dairy-free and every bit as delicious as its non-vegan counterpart.

Serve this cheesy spread alongside your favorite cheeseboard accoutrements like crostini, crispy crackers or warm baguette and enjoy!

Ingredients for Whipped Feta Spread:

  • Vegan Feta Cheese – Trader Joe’s, VioLife or Follow Your Heart make great dairy-free versions. I find the VioLife is least the salty of the three so this recipe reflects that in the salt measurement. If you’re using another brand, use less salt to start and add more to taste.
  • Firm Tofu – this adds body and increases the volume without having to add more cheese. And since tofu is mild in flavor and blends easily, it works perfectly in this recipe.
  • Lemon and White Vinegar – these ingredients mimic that tangy flavor that feta has. The avidity compliments the richness of the cheese and gives it a little punchiness, which is just so delicious!
  • Oregano and Garlic – this Mediterranean combo adds so much flavor and works perfectly with feta.
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil – a touch of fruity olive oil adds creaminess, richness and a touch of flavor.
  • Salt and Pepper – ties all of the flavors together and makes this Whipped Feta Pop! If you taste it and it’s not quite right, chances are it just needs a touch more salt and pepper. Season to taste and enjoy!

How to Make Vegan Whipped Feta:

It really count be easier! Simply combine all of the ingredients in a food processor and blitz until smooth and creamy!

The only real trick is to make sure that the vegan feta cheese is at room temperature so it’s nicely softened.

If you’ve ever tried to make cream cheese frosting with cold cream cheese, you know how difficult it can be to whip up a cold cheese. It never fully smooths out and you end up with a lumpy cheese spread instead of what we want which is lusciously smooth and silky whipped feta. Room temp is key for achieving these results 👩🏻‍🍳

I love this little mini food processor! it’s super powerful and doesn’t take up too much space! Plus it’s under $20! Find it here.

SERVING SUGGESTIONS

This makes a great dip for crackers and veggies and it’s delicious on top of cucumber slices. I also love using this Whipped Vegan Feta as a creamy spread for sandwiches and as the base of creamy pasta sauces like my Creamy Zuccihini Spaghetti and Vegan Feta Sauce recipe (shown below)

My favorite way to serve this whipped feta may be simply dolloped on to arugula salads with grilled stone fruits, a sprinkle of roasted sunflower seeds, and a generous drizzle of silky balsamic reduction (method shown here) The combination is out of this world!

Ingredients

  • 8 oz vegan feta cheese room temperature*
  • 1/4 block firm tofu about 3.5oz
  • 1 tsp kosher salt I use Morton's
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp white rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  • 1. Bring the vegan feta cheese to room temperature by letting it rest on the counter.
Tip before you start: I used VioLife when testing this recipe but if you're using a different brand of vegan feta like Trader Joe's or Follow Your Heart, reduce the salt in this recipe by half and add then more to taste as needed. I've made this recipe with all of these brands and they all work well!
    2. Combine all of the ingredients in a food processor and blend on high until light and creamy, about 40 seconds.
  • 3. Taste and see if it needs more salt or extra lemon. Chill before serving if desired.
  • Serve as a spread for sandwiches, dolloped onto salads, as a dip for crackers, or in my Summer Spaghetti with Zuccihini and Vegan Feta Sauce recipe. I also love whipped feta on toast with dried apricots and sunflower seeds on top. So delicious!
    Enjoy!

Notes

The feta must be room temperature so it’s soft enough to blend otherwise it won’t blend into the tofu and the texture will be really clumpy.

This is best served chilled, so if possible, refrigerate after blending for at least 30 minutes (unless using in pasta the pasta sauce recipe, then room temp is great

Store this whipped feta in the fridge in an airtight container. It will last up to week and it gets better with each passing day as the flavors have time to marinate the cheese.
